Broken Ties

Turned
Into Sorrow
As strains of music filled
The air in celebration
I stood.
Pain.
Fear clenched its
Cold claws around my heart And quelled the elation
I had felt at your coming- Your coming, now, denied. Twice
This loss is doubled
On this day of all days
When we celebrate
Age and Wisdom
Those who came before us;  And those, like you,
Still to come.
I stood, to praise
And only felt…
Pain.
The tie
That bound you to me Irrevocably broken
On Mother’s Day.
